PETA plumb new depths of hypocrisy

Joe Biden might have lost the race to the White House, but he still managed to beat Barack Obama in the race to the doghouse - getting a new puppy for his family weeks before Obama's family took possession of their much lauded 'First Dog.'

PETA, the vile 'animal rights' organisation, were on the warpath when they learnt about the new addition to the Biden family. Joe Biden had bought his new puppy from a breeder, not an animal shelter as PETA encouraged.

This inspired them to blow some of their annual $30 million budget on a series of controversial ads with the slogan 'Buy One, Get One Killed.'

In the words of PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk: "Buying from a breeder kills a shelter dog's chance of being adopted. Four million unadopted animals are killed in shelters every year."

As is typical for PETA, their campaign is wildly hypocritical. While the message about adopting animals is correct, what Newkirk and Co. fail to mention is that PETA itself is the leading killer of shelter animals in the United States.

Despite having an annual budget in the tens of millions, PETA execute over 90% of all animals brought to their PETA adoption centers. Compare that to the Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, who have a shoestring budget compared to PETA, yet successfully re-home 70% of animals brought to their shelter.

PETA is in a better situation than any so-called humane organization in America to actually save animals lives - yet they prefer to spend their budget on adverts encouraging children to give up eating meat, or abandon drinking milk.

To criticize the Bidens for not adopting a shelter pet is disgusting, considering that PETA murdered over 20,000 shelter animals in recent years.

PETA's cruelty towards animals is unprecedented. In 2007, two PETA employees (Adria Hinkle and Andrew Cook) went around the Virginia area visiting local animal shelters and taking healthy cats and dogs from them to 'rehome.'

After loading up 80 pets in their van (including 'Happy', a puppy belonging to Animal Control Officer Barry Anderson, who made Hinkle promise that the puppy would be re-homed and not 'put down') Hinkle and Cook idled their van in the parking lot of that same shelter and began systematically exterminating all of the animals with a (highly illegal) lethal injection.

Within twenty minutes of promising to rehome all these animals, the two PETA employees had killed every last one of them. They then proceeded to dump the bodies in the dumpster of a local Chinese restaurant, rather than dispose of the murdered animals properly.

So when Ingrid E. Newkirk warns that buying a puppy kills a shelter dog's chances of adoption, what she fails to mention that PETA will be doing the killing.

PETA are an absolute disgrace and anybody who donates money to them is contributing to animal cruelty.

The Vice Presidential Debate

Uniquely, last night's Vice Presidential Debate actually got more attention than the previous Presidential Debate. Apparently, America is far more interested in seeing Sarah Palin battle it out with Joe Biden than McCain and Obama bat back and forth.

Most people were expecting a bloodbath. After her appalling interview with Katie Couric, many had dismissed Sarah Palin as the fluffy little Hockey Mom - and she was going toe-to-toe with Washington veteran Joe Biden - a man who first entered the senate when Palin was just six years old.

In the end, she surprised everybody. Right from the moment she shook Biden's hand - and asked him sweetly "CanI call you Joe?" - she took control and the following debate showed her handling herself admirably.

Now the dust has settled, the media has reached a consensus that Joe Biden 'won' the debate. He did do very well - He reined in that big mouth of his, delivered concise, carefully worded responses and treated Palin like a true gentleman - anxious not to appear to be bullying her.

That being said, I think Republicans will be very happy with the way 'their girl' did. She injected folksy humor and cheery anecdotes into her fluent answers - and delivered them all with a confidence and charm that the audience appreciated. She even winked at the camera at one point.

Personally, I think she laid the 'small town Mom' shtick on a bit too thick - but certainly exceeded my expectations.

Say what you want, but this lipstick wearing pit bull is not to be underestimated.

Biden on Barack

"I think he can be ready, but right now I don't believe he is. The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training."

So said Joe Biden of Barack Obama a few months ago. That was before Barack Obama selected him as Vice Presidential candidate for the upcoming election.

The choice of Joe Biden is an interesting one. Politically, Biden and Obama have a lot of common ground - but at the risk of mixing metaphors, there's also been a lot of water under that bridge of 'common ground.'

The problem is that Joe Biden himself stood for election - so he ruthlessly attacked Obama during that campaign. It's now very difficult for him to stand and deliver convincing support when his past words can be dredged up and used against him.

I mean, why does Joe Biden think Obama won the Democratic candidacy in the first place?

“...you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” he said. “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”

The wail of anguish you just heard was every racially sensitive person in America. Condoleezza Rice and Colin Powell, both one-time African-American cabinet members and pretty much the definition of 'mainstream,' probably resent the implication that they're inarticulate, dumb, dirty and ugly.

But even if Biden is resentful of Obama's victory and insensitive about his race, at least the Senator for Delaware is in support of his policies and plans. Or is he?

"I don’t recall hearing a word from Barack about a plan or a tactic."

Well, perhaps Joe Biden at least will be unified with Obama in teaming up against their rival, Republican senator John McCain.

“John McCain is a personal friend, a great friend, and I would be honored to run with... ...John McCain, because I think the country would be better off.”

YIKES.

Yes, Joe Biden is a risky selection for Vice President. Although history has shown that the VP nomination generally doesn't influence the voter's final decision, it's certainly not going to reinforce Obama's campaign like he'd perhaps hoped. McCain will be using his inopportune quotes with glee abandon.
