The Tudors is Back!

Giving up Direct TV might have saved us a bit of money, but that doesn't come without sacrifice - this month saw the return of historical melodrama 'The Tudors' which was one of the highlights of our Sunday evening last year.

Last season, The Tudors climaxed with treacherous minx Anne Boleyn (Natalie Dormer) getting her noggin lopped off by an irate Henry VIII. This season will, presumably, continue the story of his fledgling marriage to Jane Seymour and the arrival of his son and heir Edward VI.

It all looks exciting stuff - as a historian, I'm aware of the historical liberties the writers have taken with The Tudors, but fully embrace the much needed injection of sex, violence, glamor and treachery the Showtime producers have given a traditionally stuffy chapter in English history.

But I'm going to miss it all... Sadly, The Tudors is only broadcast on Showtime and in order to get that, you need a Showtime and HBO provider like Satellite Directv.

But if you're tech-savvy, there are other options aside from Direct T V. You can actually watch the entire first episode of the 3rd season of The Tudors online, at Showtime's website here.

And if that doesn't satisfy your lust for medieval melodrama, you can buy individual episodes to download from the likes of iTunes, Blockbuster and Amazon Video On Demand.
