New York Renaissance Faire 2010

It's become something of a pilgrimage since we moved to America - the annual trip to the New York Renaissance Faire in Sterling Forest.

Each year that we've gone has been a different experience. The first year we went, Tina and I were sans Baby Boozer, so it was much more focused on drinking and frolicking. We waited two years for the next visit, which saw Mini Militant a little bemused, but curious.

This time, however, our intrepid two-year-old was completely on board for the spectacle - and loved it. From the moment we stepped through the gates into the fictional 'shire' he was skipping, dancing and running around - desperate to see and climb everything in site (it was exhausting trying to wrangle him.)

Climbing is Boozer's primary preoccupation, and Sterling Forest provided him with a multitude of enormous boulders to scale:

And the medieval buildings made pretty good climbing frames as well.

When it comes time to recharge, the food was delicious. Mini Militant wasn't too enamored with the turkey legs (a bit sinewy) but was all about the super colossal onion blossoms. Daddy was more enamored with the beer.

One of the highlights was riding the camel (no, that's not a euphemism.) Two beautiful camels were on hand and our little trio took a stroll on one of the magnificent beasts. She was like the Cadillac of riding animals - the lolloping stride so gentle and relaxing compared to a horse.

Mini Militant - clutching onto the pommel of the saddle - loved it so much he didn't want to get off!

Next, of course, were the awesome stage shows. A two-year-old is not altogether compatible with this sort of sedate entertainment, but Mini Militant did enjoy joining in with everybody when they clapped or cheered, even though he wasn't sure what all the fuss was about.

And finally, of course, Mummy Militant got to peruse the armory...

As always, one of the best days of the year - and even better, we scored free tickets to come back in September! So stand by for New York Renaissance Faire Part Deux very soon!

Ohmigoodness, that mini kilt is just about the cutest thing ever! Outdone just slightly by the kiddo wearing it and his handsome daddy! :)
