Many Teens Don't Keep Virginity Pledges
by Steven Reinberg
(HealthDay News)
Teens who take virginity pledges are just as likely to have sex as teens who don't make such promises -- and they're less likely to practice safe sex to prevent disease or pregnancy, a new study finds. Full story here.
So, the $200 million George Bush ticked off for 'abstinence only' sex education turned out to be a complete waste of money? And the conservative movement is again proven to be talking out of their derrieres? Quelle surprise!
I'm all for sex education programs recommending that kids don't have sex before marriage - but only if they're backed by full and explicit instructions on how to avoid catching diseases or getting pregnant if they do decide to get busy. Which some of them will - because they're teenagers, after all.

As long as such 'full and explicit' instruction is optional by the parent.
I don't want people teaching my children that 'experimenting' is OK.
My wife and I can handle such education on our own.
After all, that worked so well for Sarah Palin!
My theory is education should be involved (up to date information and resources about STI and birth control) as not all parents have "the talk" with kids, but it's the parents responsibility of what happens in the teens life. Not to mention, you know, the teenager.
I've been sitting here staring at this empty box trying to formulate my response...
I agree with you.
However, the parents need to be involved and should have a say as to when and how that sex education takes place. I think it needs to be available for those whose parents don't address these issues at all. I'm just not sure what it all should look like as far as what age to make it available...
Thinking about CK's comment, I think my response was a bit flippant.
Think I could make millions if I marketed my MORBID MONDAY diet???
