Seven years ago today, hijacked airliners were flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York, killing all the passengers and 2,603 people in the towers.
New York is a subdued city on this anniversary. People are quieter as they scurry in and out of the towering tower blocks. The bustle on the subway seems calmer. Even the yellow taxi cab drivers seem to be stomping their horns with less aggression.
It's a very thoughtful, introspective day.

I'm glad to hear that. Sometimes it seems as though too many have already forgotten.
It´s also a very strange sensation to be commemorating the day abroad. There was minimal coverage here on the evening news, especially since the public memorial for the victims of the SpanAir crash was yesterday as well... it´s an eerie juxtaposition, and watching those images still shakes me. In a way, I´m almost glad I wasn´t back at home this year, to see an entire day of footage of the planes hitting the towers and weeping family members of victims.
